Most children inherit the
same eye colour or a similar shaped nose from their respective parent, but I’ve
inherited much more: a passion for learning and unquenchable curiosity which
has served me well throughout my academic career, influencing my early
fascination of the workings of life.

The human body is an
outstanding machine with a variety of diverse systems producing an organism
that could never be duplicated. My love of science is just one of my reasons
for choosing this degree. I appreciate a challenge particularly towards a
rewarding objective to helping someone achieve their optimum health and
although this is a tough career it can be immensely gratifying, highlighted by
the many professionals I have spoken to on a personal level.

My fondness of the
sciences influenced the selection of my Leaving Certificate choices. The
subjects of biology and chemistry have helped develop both my interest and
knowledge surrounding the human body and factors that affect it. Additionally,
maths has provided the relevant aid to hone my analytical and problem-solving
skills which in turn helps me to work logically. Thus, good time management,
self-motivated study skills and ability to cope with intensity of the complex
nature of each topic are essential.

I am currently in the process
of finalising a placement visit to my local hospital which I have organised for
spring. I expect to be able to observe the day-to-day experience of medical
professionals and what is entails in ensuring that the hospital and its staff
are working together coherently to safeguard the patients. Personally, I cannot
wait for this opportunity as I have confidence that this insight will stretch
my knowledge, provide me with a better understanding of the experience for
those in the medical field and suggest what is required of me in the future.

Moreover, I enjoy
absorbing a wide variety of science related journals as I often crave to new
ways outside an academic zone to learn as I am enthusiastic to develop my
scientific knowledge. I find reading the works of experienced professionals and
watching documentaries helps nurture my blossoming fascination with the human
anatomy, and the promotion of health. In addition, I have a wide range of
creative and active hobbies outside of school which help me to keep a healthy
balance; I have an undying interest in the arts, and so regularly take the time
to present this creativity on canvas. I also play the bass guitar and though I
am self-taught, I find it enjoyable and eminently productive.

At university, I would
like to contribute to university life by showcasing my self-motivated,
reliable, determined and enthusiastic personality in all that I do; whether
than it academically or recreationally. I look forward to taking part in the vast
opportunities available such as sporting activities. I can assure you that I
will relish the opportunity to be a hardworking and well-rounded student in
your establishment. I hope to continue my journey into higher education in a
new and diverse environment in which I can build on my skills and apply them to
this course.

I do not necessarily want
to be that individual who tries to change the world, but I would be wholly content
if I could succeed in changing someone’s world through the advancements of
modern day science. I am aware of the demands of a medical career, but my
commitment and desire to achieve my goals will strengthen me throughout the
process. Therefore, I believe that a degree from your University will enable me
to begin to make the relevant steps towards fulfilling my pursuit in the
healthcare profession.
