The article starts off with describing how
life in the surgical world was in the earlier times, Burch shows us different
point of views of people who engaged in that type or work. Astley Cooper was
famous for his anatomical and surgical advances which made him renowned
worldwide. Before he reached that height in his career, Cooper broke some laws
where he would have dug up graves to study the anatomy of bodies. Cooper sought
out the deceased, the traumatized and the mutilated. His work on the breasts
dissection depending on obtaining specimens so he could take them part and
study the blood vessels and etc. He was probably one of the only person who
recognized anatomy in a new way, he saw the strengths and weaknesses of
approaches to it. he explored to his heart’s content whether his ideas had any
clinical power. Burch explains how cooper risked himself daily in order to
examine the bodies and the slightest slip and the smallest wound and infections
commonly turned anatomists into cadavers.
